Asia's top venture capital continues to enthusiastically support Blockchain and encryption projects, with Singapore becoming an investment hotspot.
Top Asian venture capital continues to strongly support Blockchain and encryption projects
Despite the increasingly strict regulatory environment, leading venture capital funds in Asia are still actively investing in blockchain and cryptocurrency companies globally. According to a research report from a data platform, from January 2021 to June 2022, the top 20 venture capital firms in Asia participated in 495 relevant investments worldwide.
These active investment institutions mainly come from regions such as mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and India, with their investment focus primarily on companies in the United States. According to the number of blockchain transactions participated in, the more active investors include a certain capital with 59 transactions (, a certain distributed capital with 45 transactions ), a certain venture capital with 43 transactions (, a certain capital with 41 transactions ), a certain startup investment with 38 transactions (, and a certain capital with 12 transactions ), among others.
The American Blockchain companies favored by these leading investors include: a platform focused on security analysis and monitoring of Blockchain protocols and DeFi projects, a payment platform, an encryption trading platform, and a Blockchain development platform, among others.
In the Asian region, Singapore has become the main target for these investors. The Singapore Blockchain companies they invest in include: an encryption trading software company, a digital asset custody service provider, a gamified platform, and a decentralized digital signing platform developed based on Ethereum, IPFS, and Filecoin technologies.
From the investment perspective, blockchain development platforms and infrastructure are the most popular investment directions. In the past 18 months, 13 top venture capital firms in Asia have invested in such projects. Certain Capital and Another Capital invested in 4 and 3 companies respectively, including several well-known enterprises from the United States and Singapore. Meanwhile, Certain Venture Capital, Another Capital, and Certain Asset have focused more on application-based projects, especially in the GameFi sector, where they each have more than 10 investments in their portfolios.
DeFi and NFT, as the two fastest-growing areas of encryption, have also gained favor from these venture capitalists.
Looking to the future, Singapore's position as a Southeast Asian Blockchain hub is increasingly solidified. The country's government launched a $12 million Blockchain innovation initiative in 2020, aimed at promoting the development of the local Blockchain ecosystem. In a global encryption readiness ranking by a certain organization in the fourth quarter of 2021, Singapore was rated as the world's leading encryption-ready country.
India may also become a hotspot for attracting investors' attention in the future. Currently, there are about 230 startups in India providing services for the encryption sector. Although the country is restricting cryptocurrency trading through taxation and other means, this has not affected the enthusiasm for investing in Web3 companies. It is expected that in 2022, venture capital for Web3 startups will continue to maintain strong momentum.
Asian venture capital will continue to provide funding support for companies in the region. The Web3 environment in this area is particularly suited for consumer-facing innovative services. Besides consumer demand, the open attitude towards encryption in countries like Singapore has also attracted numerous entrepreneurs, especially against the backdrop of increasingly stringent regulatory scrutiny in the United States.
Currently, regulatory agencies in several Asian countries are developing a framework for digital asset management for the coming years. Despite facing challenges, Asia will still be an important hub for global Blockchain and encryption innovation.
