[Golden Finance] The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia recently issued a ruling on a significant NFT theft case. Cameron Albert Redman, a 22-year-old man from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, was sentenced to one year in prison for conspiring to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit aggravated identification theft.

Court documents show that in May 2022, Redman and his accomplices illegally accessed the social media accounts of multiple digital artists, luring users to visit fake websites for NFT transaction authorization, while in fact stealing the victims' cryptocurrency and NFT assets. The criminal gang caused losses to over 200 victims within a few days, illegally profiting up to $794,000.

Redman was arrested in Portugal in March 2025 and extradited to the United States. The case was jointly investigated by the Washington field office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police's Cyber Crime Investigation Team.
