A group of unknown feminist activists called Collective Shout published an open letter, urging payment processors like PayPal, Visa, and Mastercard to ban payments for NSFW games on Steam.

Just a short while later, up to 27,000 NSFW games were completely removed from Steam and itch .io.

Valve (Steam) has confirmed:

Credit card companies pressured them to delist certain adult games from the platform.

Interestingly, back in 2021, Steam banned NFT and blockchain games for the exact same reason.

Because they’re under pressure from what are essentially payment monopolies.
